Chadan ((ロシア語:Чада́н); ''Chadaana'') is a town and the administrative center of Dzun-Khemchiksky District of the Tuva Republic, Russia, located on the Chadan River (in the Yenisei's basin), west of Kyzyl. Population: ==History== In 1873, at the confluence of the river Khondergey into the river Chadan a Buddhist monastery was founded named Aldee-Khuree. This year is considered the founding year of the city. Since 1923, the village at the monastery known as Artaadyt. In January 1929 Plenum Tuvan People's Revolutionary Party adopted anti-religious decree Aldee-Khuree monastery was closed and destroyed. Since 1929 the village is named Chadan. In May 1945 Chadan became a town and became the center Dzun-Khemchiksky District. At this time, near the city of coal deposit was discovered and began its development and opencast mining. Town status was granted to it in 1945.
